Age of discovery, Ra secondary school 2002
Inspiration for the motives was the youths' own favorite objects which they brought to school to be documented, combined with excerpts from the book about the explorer Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki expedition.
To provide variety, diversity and "landmarks" we have decided to make "surprise islands" throughout the area, both in the floor, staircases, walls and columns, in the form of ceramic materials. The artist must work in close cooperation with the architect, according to the placement of these. Our choice fell on Arild Berg, Oslo. This is a young ceramic artist, who can relate to room and has a rich artistic language. He can combine the intimate with the large scale.
From art plan of the art committee.
A collaboration with Larvik Municipality and artistic consultant Edith Spira, Public art Norway.
